Lubricants for rails are divided into three categories:

(1) Rail oil (slide oil)

(2) Dual-purpose oil for hydraulic rails

(3) Grease.

1

The most important characteristics of rail oil are its strong adhesion and water washout resistance, as well as extremely strong resistance to extreme pressure. The load of the guide rail is generally 10~100KPa, the precision machine tool is about 30KPa, the medium load is 350KPa, and the maximum guide rail load is more than 1KPa. The purpose of the guide rail oil is to protect the guide rail and the slider, the collar will not be worn, and protect the best accuracy of the guide rail for a long time.

The guide rails sometimes come into contact with water, such as lathes and machining centers, and water will often splash on the guide rails. If the water separation performance of the guide rail oil is not good, it will be decomposed by water, and the oil will drop into the cutting fluid, which will cause cutting fluid pollution. Therefore, the water separation performance of the guide rail is extremely important. Due to the convenience of use of some precision machine tools, the guide rail and the hydraulic system share the same oil, which requires a special hydraulic guide rail dual-purpose oil. Otherwise, if only hydraulic oil is used, the guide rail will be worn out or washed away by water due to poor wear resistance; if only the guide rail oil is used, there may be too much sludge in the hydraulic system and the pressure cannot be reached. Hydraulic guide oil has the advantages of both, and both parts can be used. However, the effect is not as good as hydraulic oil in the hydraulic system, and it is not as good as the special guide oil on the guide rail, but it is not a big problem for small machine tools with a light load.

Some rougher machines have large guide rails, a simple structure, and pits on the guide rails. They are designed to be lubricated with grease, and most of them are manually squeezed with a grease gun to give an oil. All greases are required to be EP extreme pressure type, otherwise, after being squeezed out, the grease remaining on the guide rail cannot bear heavy loads. The guide rail lubrication of most imported machinery adopts the centralized oil supply method, that is, the guide rail oil or extreme pressure grease is placed in a transparent container, and the machinery will be automatically replenished. No matter what kind of oil is used, the lubricating grease used for the guide rail is consumable and non-recyclable, and most of the guide rails are exposed and cannot be recycled.

Viscosity selection for guide rail lubrication: the viscosity of guide rail oil is only 32, 68, 150, and 220 in four kinds. The hydraulic guide oil shared with the hydraulic system has only one specification of No. 32, which is suitable for rated pressure below 7MPa. If the sliding speed of the sliding table is less than 10m/min and the load pressure of the guide rail is less than 70KPa, use 68#; if the load force of the guide rail is more than 70KPa, use 150#; if the main guide rail or the surface pressure is more than 400KPa, use 220#; if the sliding table sliding speed is greater than 10m/min, only 32 and 68 can be used, 68 is used for heavy load, 32 is used for a light load, 68# is used for slow, and 68# is commonly used in most mechanical equipment.

Model selection of grease for guide rails: 0 or 1# extreme pressure grease for centralized lubrication, 2# for grease gun or manual coating
