Application of rack and pinion in laser cutting machine

Gear is a kind of wheel mechanical part which transmits torque by meshing teeth. The gear is driven with other toothed mechanical parts (such as another gear, rack and worm), which can change the speed and torque, change the direction of movement and change the form of movement. Due to the advantages of high transmission efficiency, accurate transmission ratio and large power range, gear structure is widely used in industrial products. Gear teeth clasp each other, one gear will drive another gear to rotate to drive power. Separate the two gears, also can use chain, track, belt to drive the two sides of the gear and transmission power.

The feeding profile of rack is straight line rather than involute (plane for tooth surface), which is equivalent to cylindrical gear with infinite indexing circle radius. The rack can be divided into straight gear rack and helical gear rack, which are paired with spur gear and helical gear respectively.

In the application of laser cutting machine, the rack and cylindrical gear are usually used for power transmission of servo motor, so that the laser cutting head can move in X, y, z direction to achieve the purpose of cutting various shapes of workpiece.

The helical rack and gear are widely used in laser cutting machine manufacturing because of better meshing degree, stable transmission, low noise, and large coincidence degree, which reduces the load of each pair of gears and improves the bearing capacity of gears.

Precautions for gear use:

1. Confirm whether the gear is installed in place before starting

2. The contact of gear should not be deviated to one end

3. Avoid using without side clearance

4. Proper lubrication

5. If the gear is exposed, please install protective cover to ensure safety

6. Do not touch the gear when it is rotating

7. In case of abnormal noise and vibration during operation, please stop the machine to confirm the gear engagement and assembly
