In order to improve the utilization of sheet metal and facilitate programming, the straight edge of the plate must be parallel to the machining direction of x-axis before laser cutting. Generally, manual calibration is often used, which has low efficiency, large error, serious waste of materials, and affects the processing efficiency. We have applied the function of automatic edge searching in laser cutting machine. This function has the advantages of simple operation, high precision and short time-consuming.
1. Introduction of automatic edge searching function
The large format and medium thickness metal plates are placed on the closed machine tool table. The workers only need to press the "edge search" button, and the equipment will calculate the tilt angle of the plate in a few seconds. At the same time, the coordinate system of the machine tool will rotate accordingly to ensure that the X direction of cutting is parallel to the long straight edge direction of the plate.

As shown in Figure 2 below, when the sheet metal is placed on the worktable, if it is skewed, it may cause waste during cutting. If the inclination angle and origin of sheet metal can be sensed, the cutting process can be adjusted to fit the angle and position of sheet metal, so as to avoid waste. The function of automatic edge searching came into being.
The automatic edge searching function is applied to the laser cutting machine, which solves the problem of low material utilization rate in the processing of large width and medium thickness metal plates, saves the time of calibrating plates, effectively improves the production efficiency, brings objective benefits to users, and improves the automation degree of processing and cutting machine.
